JULY 3 UPDATE: At a news conference Friday morning, Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady addressed the emergency order and enforcement. "We really are asking people, primarily, to do the right thing here," she said.
City officials will not, for example, "look for out-of-state license plates and pull people over," she said, or create a list of those who traveled and try to track them down. But they do want people "to be thinking twice" about whether travel is a good idea.
For those hitting the road or flying out this weekend, Arwady said the quarantine order applies to those arriving AG亚洲国际游戏home on Monday, but not Sunday. For people who do travel to high-risk states, Arwady asked them to "pay special attention" to their symptoms.
"We have come too far in Chicago at this point not to do the things that are open to us that help prevent the spread of COVID," she said.
On the verge of a long holiday weekend, Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced a new emergency order "directing travelers entering or returning to Chicago from states experiencing a surge in new COVID-19 cases to quarantine for two weeks."
The order takes effect July 6 and applies to residents traveling from Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.
