Your favorite childhood summertime treat is all grown up.
Jel Sert, the West Chicago-based company behind Fla-Vor-Ice and Otter Pops, is introducing alcoholic versions of their candy-color freeze pops wrapped in a clear plastic tube.
The alcoholic freeze pop will be called Sliq Spirited Ice and will appear on shelves this summer, according to a company release. The boozy pops will be 8 percent alcohol by volume and infused with either vodka, agave or rum and include flavors like lemonade, strawberry margarita and strawberry daiquiri.
“Sliq is a modern take on the classic freezer bar, giving our adult customers the alcoholic version of the immensely popular freezable treat they grew up loving," said Ken Wegner, President of Jel Sert, in a release. The shelf-stable packets are sold to be frozen at AG亚洲国际游戏home.
Jel Sert will have stiff competition—some big name players are already in the frozen spirits game. Costco introduced its own version in 2018 and in 2019 Anheuser-Busch acquired San Diego-based Cutwater Frozen Cocktail Spirits, which is introducing a version next month.
Jel Sert hopes to capitalize off millennial nostalgia to make a mark on the burgeoning market. The company said that it’s made taste a top priority—many boozy freezer pops currently on the market are high in alcohol but are hard to freeze and don’t taste very good, according to a company spokesperson.
Sliq will be the first product manufactured by 21 Holdings, a new division of Jel Sert dedicated to alcoholic beverages.
